WHAT TO DO NOW

Simple steps while you wait

These tips can help you manage discomfort temporarily. They do not replace evaluation and treatment.

Manage pain safely

Use over-the-counter pain relievers as directed on the label, unless your physician advises otherwise.

  • Stick to soft foods and avoid chewing on the affected side.

Reduce irritation

Keep the area clean and avoid temperature extremes that trigger sensitivity.

  • Rinse gently with warm salt water.
  • Avoid very hot or very cold drinks if they increase pain.
